Qirāʾāt al-'Ashr al-Sughrā

Primary Texts: Ḥirz al-Amānī (al-Shāṭibiyyah) and al-Durrah al-Muḍiyyah.

Curriculum

Students undertake a detailed study of Ḥirz al-Amānī (al-Shāṭibiyyah), covering the principles and methodology of the Ten Minor Qirāʾāt. Practical recitation begins from the student’s point of completion in the Tajwīd program and progresses through all twenty transmissions (riwāyāt), with each reading studied in detail over approximately two weeks. The final portion of the program is devoted to Jamʿ bi’l-Ḥarf, enabling students to combine the readings according to the established principles of the tradition.

Certification

Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded an ijāzah in al-ʿAsharah al-Ṣughrā through the traditions of al-Shāṭibiyyah and al-Durrah.

Students enroll for the academic year beginning in September. Tuition is billed monthly throughout the duration of the program.

Students who successfully complete this program are prepared to continue into the Qirāʾāt al-Kubrā program.

Overview

This program provides a comprehensive foundation in the science of the Ten Minor Qirāʾāt through the study of Ḥirz al-Amānī (al-Shāṭibiyyah), the most widely studied poem in the qirāʾāt tradition. Students develop both a theoretical understanding of the canonical readings and practical proficiency in their recitation, preparing them for advanced study in the Ten Major Qirāʾāt.
